I Love My New HDTV That I Can’t Watch

I just recently ponied up the cash for a brand new Olevia 27″ HDTV (shown above) I found for a really decent price on NewEgg. This is my first foray into the land of Hi-Def programming, so I’ve been pretty excited to get it in my hands.
It arrived, in all it’s crystal clear beauty, on Thursday afternoon. I immediately connected it to my Media Center computer, but was pretty unimpressed with the quality that the S-Video cable was producing. By clever researching and plenty of good user reviews, I picked this particular unit because of the inputs on the back; one of which is a VGA input, the same as for a normal computer monitor.
I went to Radio Shack and picked up a VGA extension cable to connect it from the extra VGA-connection on my video card. After setting the resolution at a whopping 1360×768, I checked out the quality again with a few DivX movies and a DVD and I couldn’t be happier. You can read 10pt text on an internet browser on the screen, something that is impossible on a standard definition TV (ie, a regular-ass TV set).
The next step was to upgrade my digital cable box to an HDTV version so I could receive the local channels and the few cable channels that are broadcasting in HD. I had to drive over to the Time Warner service center to get it, which took up my whole lunch hour on Friday. The things I sacrifice for good TV.
Ten minutes after I got home and plugged it in, slowly scrolling through the HD content, the signal for my cable goes out completely. I not only lose my brand new HDTV cable feed, but also my Internet service as well. You can imagine I was pretty pissed.
I called up tech support and went through the various diagnosis steps for resetting the box, all to no avail. What did the tech discover? That earlier that day I had a service call to disconnect my digital phone service (one of the most useless items in existence), and it seems like the technician disconnected my entire service instead.
I was perfectly calm and nice with the tech–I’m not one of the types to start screaming at the first person on the phone–but I made it VERY clear that I was one unhappy customer and wanted my service turned back on immediately.
Saturday a tech arrives around 2-3pm and manages to get the connection back to normal. I spent the day watching the awesome Planet Earth series on Discover HD Theater and drooling on myself over the quality. Later that night I even got to enjoy Saturday Night Live in HDTV, although I have to say (referring to that particular episode) projectile vomit in HD is not something I ever wanted to see. However Scarlett Johansen’s cleavage is.
Sunday morning I wake up, looking forward to a day of quality HD programming, when I notice the lights blinking on my cable modem. The service was gone. Again.
Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to have the newest generation of technology sitting in your living room, wanting to be used, and yet ONE company’s inept slack-assed technicians can’t seem to figure out how to connect a cable to a box properly. It’s bad enough that the cable is gone, even worse that my internet is also off. I had to wait until today to bitch about this! (Poor me)
I’m expecting another service call today, and I’m not letting the guy leave until he inspects every.single.part. of the system.
