Freddy vs Everyone: Robert Englund Speaks

Robert Englund spoke with MTV about his role as the legendary horror film icon Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Englund reminisces about his career as the slasher who haunts dreams, and gives a few tidbits about the future of the character.
The last time we saw old scar-head, he was beheaded (and winking) and being carried by a triumphant Jason Vorhees out of Crystal Lake in Freddy vs. Jason. It seems like the plan after that film was to pair them up with none other than Ash (Bruce Campbell) from the Evil Dead series.
How cool would that have been? Claw hand vs. Chainsaw hand. At the very least, I’d like to see what Ash dreams about, and especially see him go toe to toe with Freddy.
Now that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell himself have expressed interest in doing a modern day remake of Evil Dead, plans for integrating Ash into the buddy pic (haha) have fallen flat. Horror fans can get their hopes up slightly, as it appears they’ve also been talking to John Carpenter (Halloween) about letting Michael Myers appear instead.
So instead of Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, it’ll be Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers. Although if you think about it, Jason and Michael Myers are very similar. Both wear a mask to cover up their deformation/scarring, both are the “quiet type”, and both hunt their victims the same way–walking very slowly. How will this fit in with Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake?
Also on the Freddy Kruger news front, there’s also talk about a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel, which may be titled simply Freddy Krueger. The film would take place before Freddy was burned alive by the parents of the children he tortured when he was alive, and would include his early crimes and subsequent trial (as Cinematical writer Patrick Walsh put it, “Sex Crimes and the City”).
