    Kermit the Frog: U.S. Soldier?

Corporal Kermit the Frog, Company H, 121st Infantry Division

The U.S. war against Iraq suddenly has a new celebrity recruit in its ranks: Kermit the Frog.

A local Georgia newspaper recently featured a lighthearted story about Corporal Kermit the Frog of Company H, 121st Infantry parachuting off of a building in Iraq.

The Corporal’s partner is Cpl. Patrick Heffernan, who rescued the childhood icon from a toy store in Georgia while going through his ranger training six years ago. Since he’s been deployed in Iraq, he’s carried the green plush frog with him everywhere he goes.

Out in the sand and dust, Kermit provides hours of entertainment for Company H soldiers. He’s also a goodwill ambassador of sorts. Heffernan said Iraqi children might not know who Kermit is, but when the Humvee pulls into a village, the sight of a frog in camouflage usually breaks the ice.

Care packages have been sent to Kermit to help out his efforts in the war, including armor and weaponry designed to fit his 12″ frame. He was recently sent a pinup calender of his sweetie, Miss Piggy, and also the parachute which is featured in the photo gallery for the article.
