Movin’ On Up

I crawled out of bed from my deep warm blanket covered slumber to the obnoxious sound of my alarm clock going off, reminding me that it was just another working day at the office.
I couldn’t be more wrong.
Starbucks helped fuel my sleep riddled haze and bring me back to the living world again by injecting my brain with 20oz of White Chocolate Mocha. I had just “officially” woken up (ie an hour after I actually got out of bed) when my boss came over to my desk and asked me to join him upstairs in the meeting room.
Being the ever paranoid that I am, my first thought was that of dread. Am I in trouble? Did I do something wrong? Do I remember doing something wrong?
Again, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I just received, for the first time in my working life with any company, my first promotion. It’s a modest promotion, bringing me up to a mid-level range in the company, but it’s enough to re-invigorate myself with my career and put a big smile on my face.
Previously I had been basically centered on Web Development, building websites and maintaining others. With the new position, I am not only responsible for my previous duties as a designer, but now I am also responsible for maintenance on the computers, network maintenance, and learning the new versions of the software we use to build websites out of.
The job also comes with a new seating assignment. I’ve been moved into the upstairs office with most of the rest of the management, and I get my own cozy little corner close to the fridge and meeting room.
I’m busy building out two laptops for people to use and learning some of the upper administrative functions of our network system. And for some reason I have the theme song from The Jeffersons stuck in my head.
