All ToCed Out (Day 2)
Continuing my week-long journey into breaking into the big time, here’s what happened yesterday:
ToC Bar was closed yesterday, so I spent the night working on the ToC Bar website, which flowed over into today. Today is the deadline of when he wanted it finished, and due to some perserverance and a bit of clever thinking, I got around a coding problem I was having with some of the buttons. The original idea was to use Javascript for what’s called “rollovers”, which basically means when I click on an image or link, that in another part of the page an image would appear. In this case, when I click on “Monday” the bigger frame next to the day listings would display the flyer that goes with Monday weekly shows.
In the past, this was always easy to duplicate, however with Windows XP SP2 they restricted a lot of the Javascript and ActiveX controls on most websites, in effect breaking the rollover code that Dreamweaver uses. I had to go back to the drawing board for a simple task such as image swapping. I looked at CSS and a few others, but then eventually decided just to use iFrames to do what I needed done. After an hour of frustration, I got it working like I wanted and was able to continue on developing the page. If I hadn’t figured it out, I would have had to go back to the drawing board on the entire site design. (whew)
I worked on the site most of today as well, and it’s finally at a point where I feel comfortable enough to show it to the owner. You can check it out yourself (temporarily until it gets moved to ToC’s domain) at this address: http://tocbar.onefryshort.com/ and after it goes live you can see it at ToC’s official website (which will be hosted on this server along with this site and One Fry Short Productions). The owner wanted it as basic as possible but still looking nice and easy to update. I hope I accomplished that, but I assume i’ll find out for sure tonight.
Now that i’m done geeking you all out with my HTML skillz, I’ll move onto bigger and better news. First off, tonight there is going to be a performance at ToC bar, so it’s a prime opportunity to promote our show on Friday. DJ Big G is there right now with a few of the artists doing sound checks (and slowly losing his mind to stress and general incompetence of others), and I’ll be joining him later on to meet with Ian and help out.
And now the biggest and best news of all:
DJ HAGGIS IS RETURNING TO NEW YORK CITY!
Yes my friends, Haggis Takes Manhattan PT II: Electric Boogaloo. One of our All Smoked Out artists, Wordsmith, has invited us up on December 9th to DJ for his show at a club on the South side of Manhattan in a fairly new club. Unfortunately I won’t be able to stay as long as I like, but just the fact that I get to see that beautiful city again is enough to put a smile on my face for DAYS. My friends all know how crazy I am about NYC.. it’s my second home and possibly future home. I can’t wait!
That’s all for today. I’ll post about tonight’s events tomorrow as I gear up for the show. Lots going on tomorrow night including artist arrivals and last minute sound checks, as well as interviews I am doing with them for our video/DVD.
