Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith or Another Damn Blogger Review

I’ll spare the word-for-word review of the film since so many others have done it recently. Instead i’ll just give my honest opinion.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is a good film. A damn good film, in fact. Is it better than Attack of the Clones? Sure. Is it better than The Phantom Menace? Hell Yeah! Is it better than any of the original three films? Nope, but that’s because they are completely different films that came out in two very different generations.

The first three films will always hold a close place in my heart and nothing, not even George Lucas’s relentless tinkering with them, can change that. Lucas himself said there are two types of people who go to see the new films: The die-hard original trilogy fans that grew up with Star Wars in their childhood, and the new generation who have only seen the original films on VHS or DVD, or never seen them at all. The die-hard fans will NEVER be completely pleased by the new films because it isn’t their original trilogy with the same cast members we all know and love. The new generation won’t be nearly as picky about them because what they are seeing is all brand new to them.

I’m somewhat inbetween a die-hard fan and just a normal film watcher. I love the original trilogy, especially Empire Strikes Back, but i’ve also enjoyed the new films as well. Sure, The Jar Jar Menace was horrible, but Attack of the Clones made up for that. Most people’s main complaints about the second film was all the politics and backstory about the Empire, but that’s what I thought made the movie great. It added substance and reality to the Lucas universe.

The new film seeks to please all masses. It has elements of the original films (X-Wings, Tie Fighters, Imperial Guard, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, etc) and the new films (more of Palpatine, Padme, the Senate, etc) to please everyone. There is non-stop space fighting, light saber battles, and endless sarcastic quips from Obi Won. Does it do it’s job as the last and final Star Wars film? You bet.

In fact, I watched it again Sunday night, and it was just as good. I recommend it to anyone who hated the first two or loved the original three, or even those who haven’t seen ANY of them.
