Unexpected Showers and Big Ass Burritos

Note to self: Next time you plan a trip anywhere, check the calendar a little more closely.

When I had started making plans to go back to Austin for a night little more than a month ago, I picked this past weekend because of the paid Friday which I had off. It never even occurred to me that it might not be the best weekend to try to have fun in a major party area of a university town. Why? Because it was Easter Weekend, and everyone was LEAVING town.

Well, regardless of the date I chose, it still turned out to be a relatively successful adventure. I left Houston around 2:00 and pulled into the hotel parking lot at 4:30. Not bad on time and only a little less than half a tank of gas used (which at the current $2.00 a gallon price tag was a blessing.)

Xian and Rara were already at the hotel room trying to dismantle the dresser (don’t ask), and my cousin was still at work for the next hour or so, so we just relaxed and watched the “TV Land Awards” which was surprisingly good. The “Desperate Housewives” bit with actors from old TV series’ was hilarious.

Candace was on her way to come pick us up, so we all got ready. I was torn between going “Austin Casual” and “Austintacious” on the clothes, but after Xian put on his nice button up I had to go for dressy myself. After bathing myself in Berberry cologne we headed downstairs for a hopeful night of drinking and debauchery.

We went to Freebirds Burrito for dinner where I consumed the largest burrito I have ever eaten. For those of you that have never been there, it’s the “Choose Your Own Adventure” of Burrito restaurants. You choose what type of tortilla you want, then you choose all the toppings and they stuff the sucker and wrap it for you. I had the “Freebird” with steak fajita, refried beans, rice, and cheddar cheese. Just thinking about it now makes me hungry. :D

After that we made our way to Sixth street. This is the third time i’ve had the pleasure to visit the bar district in Austin and this was the deadest i’d ever seen the street before. It finally dawned on me about Easter weekend. It was a college town.. all the college kids went home for the weekend, duh.

We had hit a few places and consumed more than a few jello shots when walking inbetween locations an unexpected rain storm came out of nowhere and poured down on us. We ducked into the closest bar (which was two doors down) and stayed it out until it was over, which was only about 10 minutes. We somehow managed to get drenched in the whole 2 minutes we were outside though.

We played a game of pool waiting for the rain to die down and eventually headed to the next bar. One fake kamikaze later (hello, lemonaide anyone?) and a couple beers my cousin headed out due to her having to get up early in the morning for company stuff. We said goodbye to her and her boyfriend, and me, Xian, and Rara finished off the night eating several more jello shots and shaking our ass at the deadest techno club i’ve ever seen (again, due to the holiday and a bit of the rainstorm.)

Around 1:30am or so we called it a night and took a taxi back to the hotel room. We ended up just talking for a good two hours before finally passing out.

The next morning my San Antonio drinking buddies had to leave early, so I slept in a couple more hours before heading home around 10am, was home by 12:30pm. Another (partially) successful trip under my belt, i’m ready to get focused on all the projects still under my belt. Looking forward to the next time I return.

    Peaceout A-Town! :D
