The Busy Life of a DJ

I thought i’d take a break from endlessly bitching about my car/finances to post something positive for a change.

First off, my car is in (almost) perfect working condition. I got all the major repairs done on it, the only thing left is a $5 can of Throttle Body cleaner that I need to buy and somehow get my windshield wipers to stop blowing fuses. That and the stupid inspection, but that’s related to the Throttle Body (Check Engine Soon light is back on)

Second, Dish reversed the charges they took from me as well as Wells Fargo reversing the overdraft fees. My bank account went from under a $100 to over $400 in the span of 2 hours. Nice.

And third, and most importantly relating to the topic at hand, I’ve been getting hella-bookings lately on my DJ company, One Fry Short Productions. We’ve already booked two weddings, one for June and one for July, as well as having been booked for every Thursday and Saturday in March at Papa’s Icehouse in Spring. The Papa’s gigs don’t pay a WHOLE lot, but spread out over a month it’ll be a lot of extra cash. The wedding gigs in the summer months are the real money makers. One couple is even paying for a hotel room for us so we don’t have to drive home from Brenham!

We just ordered a crapload of new lights as well as trussing to hang them on, and a light panel so we don’t have to use as many power strips. It’ll make things a lot cleaner and more efficient, not to mention looking awesome. We are getting a laser, a professional strobe, and a rotating color ball.

I’m really happy with the direction everything’s going lately. I love my full-time job doing IT Services work, but my true love is still DJing. I work my full time job to pay the bills; I DJ for fun. It’s what really keeps me happy and gets me out of the house (and from playing World of Warcraft all the time.)

So there you have it. The first “Rave” instead of the typical “Rant.” Hopefully they’ll be many more like this in the future. Oh, and if you’re so inclined, come see me DJ sometime in March. Details are on the One Fry Short website.
