The Garden of New Music
I figured since this is my DJ weblog now, I’d make a new category for posts: Music. Duh.
I’m a music nut.. I can’t get enough of any one artist. If I like them, I have to have every song they’ve ever written. I think it started with Dave Matthews Band when I got “Crash” when I was in High School, and it’s only gotten worse since then (Fiona Apple, Ben Folds, Coldplay).
Last night I got Zero 7’s albums, and so far i’m really impressed with them. If you aren’t familiar with them, pick up the Garden State soundtrack (which is also a phenominaly good film, along with an extraordinary album) and check out “In The Waiting Line”. If this song doesn’t get you hooked, then there’s no hope.
Garden State’s soundtrack has also introduced me to a few other bands I wasn’t familiar with but have now grown to really like. The Shins, Thievery Corporation, and last but certainly not least, The Postal Service (technically they don’t appear on the soundtrack, but “Such Great Heights” appeared on the theatrical trailer.)
Right now i’m listening to Zero 7’s first album “Simple Things” and digging it. I’d love to try to work some of these songs into a DJ set sometime. They’d go well leading into an electronica set, as it’s sort of on the border between techno and what I call “Existential Music”. Good stuff.
