A Long Needed Vacation
As I mentioned back in January, my company had told us that if we had surpassed a certain revenue for the directory we were working on, they’d take the whole company + 1 guest each (NO KIDS!!) on a paid vacation.
That was SIX months ago, and suddenly I’m leaving on Sunday for the Bahamas! We’re flying from here in Houston to Orlando and leaving from Port Canaveral on Carnival Cruise Lines. We’ll be stopping in Freeport & Nassau for a 4-day cruise, which will be my very first.
I splurged and bought myself a little gift for the cruise: a 15gb iPod. Yeah, I paid $300 for a friggin MP3 player, but it is by far the coolest thing i’ve ever bought in a LONG time. It has it’s uses as a DJ too. Allows me easy transfer of files from my home PC to the DJ Computer, as well as carrying new music to work with me instead of wasting a CD on it or waiting for a CDRW to erase and write. I could probably go on for days justifying the expense, but damn it, I love the thing. Now I just need all those accessories.
The DJ gig has really paid off in a big way. Not just in the money portion, which is helping a WHOLE lot on the upcoming trip, but the social aspect of it as well. I’m a bit of a homebody if I don’t watch myself, so when an opportunity came for me to go have fun, be social, AND get paid for it? It didn’t take much convincing.
We’ve got a regular gig at a club in Tomball now, close to where I live. The place has had a little bit of a bad reputation over the years, but it’s got a new owner and she hired us to turn the place around. This Thursday will make one month since we started DJing “Ladies Night”, and already we’ve noticed the crowd is not only growing exponentially, but changing as well. The requests for one hour country sets is slowly dying away replaced by more requests for the good stuff that we LIKE to play. If anyone in the Houston area is ever looking to watch me DJ or have a good time, check out my web page for One Fry Short Productions for when and where you can find us each week.
Well, I’ve got lots of errands to do and a whole lot of packing to do before I leave for the Bahamas Sunday. Today’s posts will be the last for a couple weeks, but I may surprise you. Heh. At any rate, wish me luck!
