Dish Network vs Ted Turner

I am, of course, referring to the following story, which to sum it up , is basically the same situation that happened with Dish and Viacom just a month ago, when they took away MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, and a crapload of other channels for a little over 24 hours. What did I get in return for my "utmost patience" as CEO Charlie Ergen droned again and agian? A $1 credit and two free crap-per-view movies.

The beforementioned lifeblood of my satellite is Cartoon Network. Yes, I am 26 years old, but Adult Swim has made my night since it began. I would lose Futurama, The Family Guy, Home Movies, and every single Williams Street Productions cartoon (Space Ghost, Sealab 2021, Brak Show, Aqua Teen).

Let me guess, another $1 credit for my patience, basically because i'm locked into this stupid contract. All so Charlie Ergen gets his way, while all the other cable/satellite providers have already paid the same fees. Feh.

Dish’s deja-feud: EchoStar-Turner

EchoStar Communications is bracing for a showdown with Turner Broadcasting over a new carriage agreement for CNN, Cartoon Network and other Turner-owned channels on EchoStar’s Dish Network satellite service. The saber rattling from EchoStar chairman and CEO Charlie Ergen about the prospect of Dish dropping the Turner channels comes barely a month after a similar breakdown of carriage agreement talks led to the blackout of Nickelodeon, MTV and other Viacom-owned channels on Dish Network for nearly 48 hours. After extending EchoStar’s carriage agreement with Turner at the end of 2003, Ergen signaled that his patience was wearing thin in a Monday night broadcast of his self-hosted “Charlie’s Chat” program carried on the Dish Network platform. “We hope to do a deal with Turner,” Ergen said. “I think we can get it done. But if we don’t, it’s because we felt we didn’t get a fair deal.” With Ergen indicating he could sooner dig his heels in than dig into his pockets to pay what he sees as exorbitant license-fee hikes, speculation has already begun on whether he is prepared to yank seven Turner-owned channels including CNN, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies from EchoStar’s Dish Network.
