Jon Stewart On Daily Show Through 2008
Stewart captures Comedy Central vote through ‘08
Comedy Central has voted for four more years of Jon Stewart, locking up “The Daily Show” host through the 2008 presidential election. Stewart also will continue as a writer and executive producer of the Emmy-winning series, which he took over in 1999. “A lot of people like to get out when their show’s still going well,” Stewart said in a statement. “This gives me the opportunity to beat this thing into the ground.” Comedy Central president and CEO Larry Divney was equally excited about the move. “I am thrilled for Jon and Comedy Central that this magnificent union will continue for another four years,” Divney said. “Jon is one of the great young comedic minds of our time.” The deal is the second extension Stewart has signed to his contract in as many years. The comedian committed to the network for a one-year deal signed in 2003 to keep him at the anchor desk for the “Indecision 2004″ campaign — an important franchise for the network to sell sponsorships.
