Dish, Viacom Settle Rate Dispute

Ahh, the drama is over. Over the past two days there’s been a “blackout” of sorts for all 9 million DiSH network subscribers, of which I recently signed up for only three weeks ago.

The battle was over rate increases and channels that DiSH felt were uneccessary to add to the lineup. The two media conglomorates finally reached a decision that made both sides happy and restored the lost channels that included MTV, MTV2, VH1, BET, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and four others around 10pm CST on Wednesday night.

A statement from Viacom CEO Mel Karmazin:
“It’s great to have our networks back in front of all our viewers, and to bring a new service, Nicktoons, to Dish Network subscribers,” said Mel Karmazin, president and COO of Viacom, in a statement released shortly after the accord was reached. “We apologize to our viewers for the disruption in their service, and want to thank them for their patience and support. We look forward to continuing to serve our viewers through Dish Network well into the future.”

DiSH CEO Charles Ergen:
“This agreement with Viacom allows Dish Network to remain the lowest-cost, all digital TV provider in the country,” said Charles Ergen, chairman and CEO of EchoStar in a statement. “We understand that this has been a difficult few days for our customers, and we thank them for all the encouragement they have given us throughout. We also look forward to a long relationship with Viacom in which we can provide their quality channels to our viewers.”

Whatever, you corporate hacks. Just don’t take MTV & Comedy Central away from me again. If I miss Chappelle’s Show ever again the only thing you’ll hear from me is the sound of my foot going halfway up your asses.
