Rings’ to take stage
LONDON (AP) — A London producer has announced plans for a lavish musical version of “The Lord of the Rings,” the J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy that has become a cinematic hit.
Producer Kevin Wallace said the production is budgeted at $13 million, topping the present champion, the $10.6 million production of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
Producers are aiming for a premiere early in 2005.
Casting is scheduled for early 2004 for the show, which has been in development for 18 months, Wallace said Wednesday.
