    1970s-set ‘Grease 3′ in works

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) — Hoping “Grease” lightning can strike a third time, Paramount Pictures is drawing up plans for “Grease 3,” a continuation of the hit musical franchise.

The plan is to set the new project in the late-’70s, feature plenty of disco music and have the story evolve around the children of the original characters. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, stars of the 1978 original, have already been given a heads-up that their services will be sought once a script is completed. A search for writers is underway.

Didi Conn, who played Frenchie, is serving as an executive producer. She is said to have been instrumental in generating the studio’s current enthusiasm for putting together a new installment of the film.

At the studio’s DVD release party for “Grease” in the fall, sources said Conn approached Paramount chief Sherry Lansing after Travolta and Newton-John wowed partygoers with the musical number “You’re The One That I Want.”

The original “Grease” spawned a sequel four years later, “Grease 2.” Its failure was ascribed by some observers to the introduction of a new cast of characters, headed by Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer.

In developing “Grease 3,” the producers hope to avoid that problem by bringing back the old gang from the first installment while also introducing new characters.

Oh My Stars!!! Is what I have to say about Paramounts newest developement for "Grease 3". My question is, why has it taken over two decades to create the 2nd sequel? I have dreamt and based my inspirations with my career from the Grease movies- and still from this day on, I laugh with friends at the catchy one hiters like "..Sorry French!!!". Its apart of our pop lifestyle! And now in 2003, we live in a world simular to the world of "Grease", MTV TRL, making the video & making the band, Girl & boy bands, American idol, Fame, and all song & dance reality based shows on television. Behind my mind, I am thinking, if there is any movie to be made, it should be "Grease 3". Here is a few of my idea's about casting on this movie if it should matter....The opening sceen, I wish to see a couple getting cozy via homage of grease part one-and have the back ground music be "Breezin" by George Benson...the movie is set in the late 70's, and what better melancholy song could be used thats cool and retro. Then the a new theme song burst onto the screen performed by Earth, Wind & Fire-a song thats retro, hip, cool and sounds fresh!!! Please do not use the Bee Gee's- its tired and everyone has done remakes and takes from there sounds...Enough of them!!! Groups and artisit I would like to see is Evonne Elliman as teen counselor, KC and the Sunshine Band in the school gym, Alice Cooper as the Band leader, Kiss or The Isley Brothers in a dream sequence, Alica Bridges, Pointer Sisters, Elton John and early hip hop songs from the Sugar Hill Gang in cameo's on campus. We have already seen "Dazzed and Confused" and many 70's reduxe for 2000 era, please make this Grease 3 slick, fresh sexier cast(all New faces...*hint! yes no one from the WB & Disney network...please), wittier, eye popping, full of dancing and a story that is beliveable enough to follow. And as for you Mr. Travolta-Zuko...I hope to see you in Grease 3 with all the rumours of you not being interested in the project-its not like you made the greatest choices with recent movies (my dear!) hence Battle field flop...Grease made you the star you are today. Its your duty man, you owe it to Rydell and the fans...so start dancing your ass off and get your act togther with Olivia....if 'She really was the want the you want????
