TechTV slate: entertain, teach

NEW YORK — TechTV will expand its programming into a new late-night block beginning next month. With a comedy show about technology and a newsmagazine about video games among the additions to its schedule, the cable channel is making good on its promise to provide as much entertainment as it does information about living in the digital age. “We are reflecting how technology is used today,” said Greg Brannan, executive vp programming and production at TechTV. “Instead of seeing technology as a segment or a category, it functions as a prism through which we present all our programming.” Four new programs will be stripped weekdays beginning at 10 p.m. April 28: “X-Play,” which features news, reviews and interviews from the video game world; “Robot Wars,” a series acquired from the BBC that features homemade robots battling one another; and “Anime Unleashed,” Japanese-style cartoons with technology themes, like “Silent Mobius.” A fourth series, the original comedy vehicle “The Martin Sargent Show,” begins May 26. Martin Sargent, who contributes to another TechTV series, “The Screen Savers,” will take an irreverent look at topics ranging from online dating to unusual Web sites.
