Thoughts of Heroes
This is a day where everyone has a story
My day started at 9:45am as I left for work. As the car started and the radio came to life, I heard Lisa Kendall of 94.5 talking about a shuttled explosion and to turn to AM740 for more details.
When I was eight years old, I was living in Orlando Florida with my mother and her then-fiance. I had only been there since November of the previous year, and one Saturday morning my mom decided that she wanted to leave the horrible relationship she was in, so we packed everything we owned into her car and left. Little did we know, as we headed West towards our home in Houston, that the shuttle Challenger had exploded upon takeoff taking the entire crew and a teacher with it.
That was in January 28, 1986. I was young then, but it had some impact on my life. Today’s castastrophe had a much larger effect on me, as it did to millions of people all over the world today. I hope the best for their families and loved ones, and that tomorrow will be a better day.
