As I was leaving the company’s christmas luncheon at a fine seafood restaurant near the mall today, I couldn’t help but notice the large amount of traffic spilling in and out of the mall..

No, no. This was no ordinary traffic. This was the worst kind of traffic that is only seen once a year. The Last Weekend Before Christmas. (dum-dum-dum)

This is the time of year when people (like me) scramble to buy gifts at the last moment. It’s even worse because all the good stuff has already been picked through by the smart shoppers (ie everyone else) and the remaining stuff usually falls on the “Well, it’s good enough” catagory of gifts. In malls this is especially dangerous, because everyone else is out for the very same thing you are, and they are going to get it no matter what it takes.

I did a majority of my shopping on Amazon this year, but that’s just because i’m a lazy bastard. I still have a lot more to do, and of course it’s for all the people that I have no idea what I could get for them. That means lots of wandering. My current plan is to visit the local 24hr Wal-Mart late sunday night and do my shopping then, when most of the sane world is already in bed.
